Celestine Prophecy

Ok just finished and I have to say that was pretty mindblowing. I dont think I'll ever look at life in quite the same way after that. Ok the actual story is just background to the messages in it and lets just say the ending does kind of drift a little far into fantasy...but the psychology, the ideas and the main 8 points of the book really do stand and I must say are quite uplifting when thought about in thier entirety.

Now its time to read the companion book, which goes much deeper into how to apply the thinkig to real life :)

Old Spiderman cartoon

The 1967 Spiderman cartoon is actually pretty bad isnt it? lol Entertaining though in that bad/good way. Still gonna get them all for the collection.

The 90s series is definitive though, no other Spidey series touches it as far as I'm concerned.

I've really eased up on buying DVDs lately, but I still intend to get the rest of the superhero cartoons and the rest of Star Trek TNG though. Oh and more Alf Garnett...that was one class comedy series.

Anti kulture

It seems the Krazyhouse in their inifinite wisdom have finally decided to give us a proper goth night a go and 'Anti Kulture' will be starting Sunday 27th Spetember. Ok Sunday isnt ideal but this is a test run and if its popular will be moved to a better night. Its a proper goth night so that means trad goth/ new goth/ industrial/ ebm /New romantic/ new wave/ alt 80s etc....not a a goth metal night as you might expect. I dont know whats changed thier minds as they've snobbed this sort of night for so long. Maybe they've seen gap in the market or seen another club doing similar and decided to cash in...maybe its because eclectro is popular now and metal is getting more industrial again. I dont know but either way its good news and I for one will booking the Monday off work to go. Its worth it!

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Liverpool/AntiKulture-Liverpool/249438020542?v=wall&viewas=1477471672&ref=nf

Kolchak: The Night Stalker

It was actually rather good! Watching this you can see not only the huge influence on X Files, but also on Supernatural. Only watched about 6 of them but damn good despite the 70s-ness of it! Vampires, werewolves, Hindu demons, slasher robots, bone eating aliens, Jack the Ripper...its all there.

Also watched the 1930s version of 'The Invisible Man' yesterday. Absolutely brilliant, but unintentionally hysterical at the same time. I've never seen such a useless bunch of police. Claude Rains crazed performance was simply brilliant.

General update

Watched Watchmen on Blu Ray last night. Much added to the experience. Its actually a very good film even though it seems oddly paced and the ending is a bit so so...it just seems to slump off rather than build into something big. I really must see the animated version sometime to compare. The story isnt anywhere near as hard to follow as some people make out.

Also watched 2 gems of British Horror in the shape of 'Horror Express' (a 70s film about a frozen demon on a train starring Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and Telly Savalas) and 'Island of Death'...a kind of 'Peter Cushing does Quatermass' film. Awful monsters in it but it was the 60s and the story more than made up for it. I'm suprised these 2 films arent as talked about as some of the others from that time, as they probably 2 of the best ones.

I feel the need of another night out coming on again...you know I might, just might give the k another shot. Its something to do after all.

I've orderd the compelte original series of 'Kolchak: The Night Stalker'. Only saw one or 2 of them on TV years ago, but I remember it being pretty good.

Spoilers of course

firstly the new costume:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8158556.stm

Not bad I suppose, but doesnt quite have classic Doctorness about it, I'll get used to it though

And River Song is back!

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/article2544923.ece?slideshowPopup=true&articleId=2544923

Some wont be happy...I hate the idea of River Song but she's there and now she is her storyline has to be closed up so to speak.
Finally finished Torchwood...

Have to say that was pretty spectacular. I dont think adult sci fi on TV has been that good since Nigel Kneale was doing it.

Some spoilery thoughts under the cut.

Is that the end? I doubt it. Methinks Jack has only buggered off from Earth so he can bump into the Doctor in the upcoming specials.

Pretty heavy stuff what with Frobisher shooting all his family, really felt sorry for the guy he'd been stitched up so much..... And Jack sacrificing his Grandson. Pretty heavy themes for a sci fi show. As is the idea of using live children as narcotics. The government were the real monsters in this show though. I think Torchwood has matured so much now from its humble beginings of 'lets try and shock people by being violent, a bit rude and openly pro gay'. Its treating its audience with more credibility now thankfully and telling good stories.

The other question is if Torchwood series 4 happens who will be the team? Lois and Agent Johnson seem like strong possibilities, Ianto's brother in law maybe. But I think they may just go with a few new characters...

This weekend ...

...I endulged in a couple of orgies of satanic worship ;)

No thats not as exciting as it sounds lol...I watched 2 great 70s horror films based around devil worship. Firstly 'Race with the Devil' from 1975. Good stuff for those who havent seen it think 'The Wickerman' meets American road movie and you're pretty close. I'll not give too much plot away because if you havent seen it, its one of those films thats better if you dont know much about it but it starts with 2 holidaying couples witnessing a black mass and develops from that. The second was one I've never seen before called 'Blood on Satans Claw'...this film looked as though it might be pretty bad when it started, but quite the opposite. Its all based around a strange skull being found in a 17th century village and people who come into contact with it falling under the influence of a local satanic cult led by a rather stunning looking young Linda Hayden, and growing a demon-like claw and skin...also of interest to Dr Who followers is it also stars Wendy Padbury who was Pat Troughtons assistant, Zoe. Lots of taboo breaking in this one and generally an underrated horror gem.

Also watched 2 other horrors this weekend...The Howling, which has aged pretty well (not seen it since I was 10) and Revenge of Frankenstein, which wasnt bad, but not my favourite of the Peter Cushing Frankenstein series...I much prefer Curse of Frankenstein, Evil of Frankenstien and Frankenstein must be Destroyed. I still havent seen 'Frankenstein Created Woman' or 'Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell' yet though.

Still havent wathced parts 4 and 5 of Torchwood yet, have already been spoiled about something major in it though. Its a good job I'm not worried about that sort of thing.

Another external hard drive knackered...almost 500gb worth of music, film and TV on there gone simply because the electric went off. At first I thought it was my entire PC and I shit myself because it wouldnt boot up. It turned out it booted up ok once the external drive was removed and it wont connect up now at all.

I know I should back stuff up onto disc, but it kind of defeats the object of having all that extra memory and buying 2 to have a back up of the same stuff seems like money wasted. I'm really not sure whether to bother with getting another one now, as they just seem so fragile.

Good episode of Torchwood tonight...looks like we're getting to the sci fi more tomorrow so even better. More of an action suspense feel to tonights episode though.

Trust bloody John Barrowman to have a naked scene slipped in, the mans ego is phenomenal....I'll be avoiding reading the Torchwood sites because I expect there will be more talk about that than anything else :S Hopefully we can have Eve Myles naked tomorrow to address the balance ;)

Torchwood (no spoilers)

Seems ok up to now...not much happening so far but nice creepy atmosphere and it was only part 1. Could get good.

Torchwood still seems like a light snack between meals to me and I'm not one of those people who obssesses over it (probably because I'm not of the Captain Jack/John Barrowman effected), but with the lack of a full Dr Who series this year the spin offs and specials keep the interest going just nicely.

Star Trek Next Generation

I have to admit I'm really struggling with season 2 of Star Trek TNG. Too many 'nice' episodes...too many soapy episodes too (just watched ep 14). I think this is around the point I gave up on it whilst it was on TV. I really enjoyed Season 1, I flew through that. I just hope it gets better than this because the only ones I've watched of the later ones have been Borg episodes (brilliant) and a few Klingon ones (also good)....theres not exactly much alien conflict/ powerful beings/ weird sci fi phenomena going in season 2 so far, thats the elements I loved about the original series and they should never have got away from that too much.
