Serpent and the Rainbow

I watched this and thought it was very good. Not a zombie film as a I thought, but more focused around Voodoo and supposedly based on truth though there were some more typical horror scares in the form of hallucination sequences (with zombies!) and a very squeamish torure sequence.

A hugely unnoticed and original film from Wes Craven...a lot better than most of the other stuff he's done!

It's not that original: the book was written in the 1980s and was a fairly scientific attempt to investigate the "true" zombie cases in Haiti. A lot of the author's work was focussed on one case that was fairly well-known at the time.

maybe not original in itself, but quite different from anything else in that genre, though I'm yet to watch White Zombie so I dont know what thats like.
